Kapa guitars were made in the USA using imported German necks, electronics and tuners. Kapa made their own bodies and tremolos, as well as the pickups on. You’re looking at a mid-late 60s KAPA Continental 12 string. It appears to be completely original. If you’re looking, you probably already know about KAPA’s founder and history here in the US in the 1960s and his desire to build quality economical instruments. His association with Hofner in Germany allowed him to purchase electronics from them, then design and build solid body guitars in Maryland to sell to the masses. Later models were imported from Japan. I don’t know of a dependable way to date KAPA guitars since I don’t think there are records of serial numbers. Even the pot numbers seem to be different than others. For what it’s worth, the serial number on the back plate of this one is 5345. The number stamped on each pot is MW9033. All three pots are the same and look to be original. As to functionality, all the electronics work fine. The Hofner mini-humbuckers sound great. I’m in a 60s band and have gigged with it a couple times. Using a compressor brings out all its best when mixing lead and rhythm. It has a fairly thin neck and the action is low for an old 12 string so is very comfortable to play. The truss rod seems to work but I’ve never had to do much adjusting. Dushyanth and K. It still retains a nice lacquer shine despite the wear. It comes with its original hard case which is a bit worn, but very dependable.
